Je m’implique dans la communauté chinoise de Montréal depuis mon adolescence. J’ai grandi en faisant du bénévolat pour aider à organiser des événements communautaires et promouvoir la culture et les traditions chinoises. Aujourd’hui, l’un de mes rôles philanthropiques est en tant que président de l’Association familiale Chan, qui a notamment pour mission de soutenir nos aînés chinois en organisant des activités visant à rompre l’isolement et à améliorer la santé et le bien-être social, mental et physique. Nous organisons des sorties plusieurs fois par an, fournissons un logement à ceux qui en ont besoin et organisons des joutes de mah-jong dans notre espace. La plupart des gens ne connaissent pas la vie communautaire qui existe dans le Quartier chinois, car elle est en grande partie cachée dans les vieux bâtiments qui bordent les rues, en particulier aux étages supérieurs. Le patrimoine du Quartier chinois disparaît lentement. J’espère que la jeune génération s’impliquera pour assurer la pérennité de nos traditions pour les générations futures.
我從十幾歲開始就參與滿地可華人社群的活動。我從小就參加幫助社群的義工活動，推廣中華文化和傳統。如今，我在慈善事業上的角色之一是陳穎川堂/至孝堂會長。該協會的部分使命是通過活動來協助華裔長者，減少孤立，並改善社交、心理及生理健康和福祉。我們每年都會舉辦多次戶外活動，為有需要的人提供住房，每天在我們大樓都有麻將活動。大多數人都不清楚唐人街的社群生活，因為很多社群活動都隱藏在街道兩旁的古老建築中，尤其是在建築高層。唐人街的文化遺產正在慢慢消失。我希望年輕一代能參與其中，確保我們的傳統能世代相傳。
I have been involved with the Montreal Chinese community ever since I was a teenager. I grew up volunteering to help with community events and to promote Chinese culture and traditions. Today, one of my philanthropic roles is as President of the Chan Family Association; its mission, in part, is to support our Chinese seniors by organizing activities to break isolation and to improve social, mental, and physical health and wellbeing. We organize outings several times a year, provide housing to those in need, and host daily mahjong activities in our space. Most people don’t know about the community life that exists in Chinatown since much of it is hidden from public view in the old buildings lining the streets, especially on the upper floors. Chinatown’s heritage is slowly disappearing. My hope is that the younger generation will get involved to ensure our traditions live on for future generations.
